EN32B – BRIGHT BAR Grade Introduction:

EN32B Bright Bar is a low carbon case hardening steel used extensively for general engineering applications. When carburized, EN32B exhibits a hard-wearing surface while maintaining a relatively low tensile strength (430-490 N/mm²). It is easy to machine and weld in its supply condition, making it suitable for components that experience light stress. This grade is often used where wear resistance is important without the need for high core strength.

EN32B – BRIGHT BAR Hardness:

EN32B is designed for case hardening, typically having a soft core and a hard surface. Surface hardness after carburizing is higher, while the core remains ductile.

EN32B – BRIGHT BAR Heat Treatment:

EN32B is typically carburized for increased surface hardness, followed by quenching and tempering to improve the toughness of the core.

EN32B – BRIGHT BAR Hardening:

EN32B steel components can be hardened via carburizing, which involves heating the material in a carbon-rich atmosphere at temperatures around 880-930°C and then quenching.

EN32B – BRIGHT BAR Tempering:

Tempering is done after quenching to reduce brittleness, typically at temperatures around 150-200°C.

Stress-relieving is typically carried out at around 650°C after heavy machining or forming to minimize residual stresses.

Normalizing occurs at approximately 900°C, followed by air cooling, which helps refine the grain structure and enhance mechanical properties.

Annealing is done by heating EN32B to 800-850°C, holding it at that temperature, and then slowly cooling it to relieve internal stresses and soften the material.

EN32B has good machinability in its normalized or annealed state, making it ideal for turning, milling, and other machining processes.
