Heat treatment conditions vary with component size, shape, and furnace type. For specific heat treatment guidelines, consult your heat treatment provider.
EN36C Hardening:
Harden EN36C by heating to 760-780°C and then quenching in oil.
EN36C Tempering:
Temper EN36C in oil at 150-200°C to relieve stresses and reduce the risk of cracking.

EN36C Forging Properties:
Soak EN36C at 1177°C (2150°F) prior to forging. Do not forge below 1010°C (1850°F). Post-work solution treatment is required before final hardening.
EN36C Stress Relieving:
Heat to 600-650°C and cool in still air to relieve internal stresses.
EN36C Normalizing:
Heat EN36C to 890-920°C and cool in still air.
EN36C Annealing:
Heat to 830-850°C and cool in a furnace.
EN36C Machinability:
EN36C offers excellent machinability and weldability in the annealed condition. Stress relief is required post-welding. Avoid welding in the heat-treated or carburized condition. Machinability processes such as turning, milling, drilling, and tapping are effective when proper tool types and machine settings are used.
EN36C Welding:
EN36C is readily weldable in the annealed condition. Ensure proper stress relief post-welding.
