DIN 1.2714 Grade Introduction:

DIN 1.2714, also known as 56NiCrMoV7, is a German hot-work alloy steel used extensively in the tooling industry. It is classified as a shock-resisting steel under the DIN 17350 standard. This grade is primarily utilized for die-casting molds, especially in the extrusion of aluminum, as well as hot cast molds. The material undergoes ultrasonic testing to ensure high quality, making it ideal for critical tooling applications. Smaller products are typically hot-rolled, while larger ones are forged.

DIN 1.2714 Heat Treatment:

The heat treatment process involves varying the heating, soaking, and cooling rates based on the shape and size of the components. Additional factors include furnace type, quenching medium, and workpiece handling.

DIN 1.2714 Hardening:

The steel is hardened by heating it to 840-870°C and quenching it in oil.

DIN 1.2714 Tempering:

  • Tempering temperature: 400-650°C

DIN 1.2714 Forging Properties:

For forging, preheat slowly to 1050°C and work at 850°C.

DIN 1.2714 Stress Relieving:

Stress relief should be performed after heavy machining by heating to 600-650°C for about two hours per 25mm section, followed by cooling in the furnace to 500°C, and then air cooling.

DIN 1.2714 Normalizing:

Due to its air-hardening properties, DIN 1.2714 should not be normalized.

DIN 1.2714 Annealing:

The annealing process is carried out at 680-710°C, with a resultant hardness of ≤250 HBS.

DIN 1.2714 Machinability:

The machinability of DIN 1.2714 is excellent, rated at 90% of the machinability of water-hardening low-alloy steels.

DIN 1.2714 Welding:

Prehardened materials can undergo stress tempering before welding.
