Description

60Si2MnA Steel Introduction:

60Si2MnA is a high-silicon, manganese spring steel with excellent mechanical properties, widely used for manufacturing springs that require high strength and resilience. This alloy combines silicon (Si) and manganese (Mn), which give it high elasticity, fatigue resistance, and the ability to endure heavy loads without permanent deformation. The “A” at the end of the designation signifies that this grade has stricter control over certain elements, leading to more consistent performance. This steel is known for its superior hardness and toughness after heat treatment and is ideal for high-stress applications.

60Si2MnA Grade Applications:

60Si2MnA is typically used in the production of:

  • Leaf springs
  • Coil springs
  • Suspension springs for heavy-duty vehicles
  • High-stress mechanical components
  • Railway springs
  • Industrial machinery springs

Equivalent Grades:

  • GB: 60Si2MnA
  • DIN: 1.0904 (55Si7 is similar but with slight differences)
  • AISI/SAE: 9260 (similar)
  • JIS: SUP6 (similar)

Chemical Composition:

Element Content (%)
C 0.56-0.64
Si 1.50-2.00
Mn 0.60-0.90
P ≤ 0.035
S ≤ 0.035

Mechanical Properties:

Property Value
Tensile strength (MPa) 1270-1960
Yield strength (MPa) ≥ 1225
Elongation rate (%) ≥ 8
Reduction of area (%) ≥ 40
Hardness (HB) 330-388 (quenched and tempered)

60Si2MnA Hardness:

In its quenched and tempered condition, the hardness of 60Si2MnA ranges from 330 to 388 HB. After heat treatment, the hardness can reach 40-50 HRC, depending on the quenching and tempering process.

Heat Treatment:

60Si2MnA undergoes heat treatment to improve its mechanical properties, particularly hardness, strength, and toughness.

Hardening Process:

  1. Heating for hardening: Heat the material to 850-880°C, followed by quenching in oil or water.
  2. Tempering: Tempering is performed at 450-550°C, which balances hardness with toughness and reduces internal stresses.

Physical Properties:

Property Value
Modulus of Elasticity (N/mm²) 206 × 10³
Density (g/cm³) 7.85
Thermal Conductivity (W/m.K) 46.0

Thermal Properties:

  • Thermal conductivity: 46.0 W/m.K at room temperature.
  • Specific heat: 460 J/kg-K.

Forging Properties:

60Si2MnA can be forged at temperatures between 1050°C and 850°C. After forging, it should be cooled slowly to reduce internal stresses and prevent cracking.

Normalizing:

Normalizing is conducted at 850-880°C, followed by air cooling. This process refines the grain structure and improves the toughness of the steel.

Annealing:

Annealing is performed at 680-720°C, followed by slow cooling. This softens the material, making it easier to machine and form, particularly before heat treatment.

Welding:

Welding of 60Si2MnA is not generally recommended due to its high carbon and silicon content, which can make it prone to cracking. If welding is necessary, preheating and post-weld heat treatment are required to ensure structural integrity and minimize the risk of defects.
