42CrMo4 Grade Introduction:
We manufacture and supply 42CrMo4 Round Bars in a wide range of sizes, using prime quality billets and blooms. 42CrMo4 is a low alloy steel classified under SAE-AISI 4140. It is a medium carbon steel with 1% chromium-molybdenum, offering good hardenability and high tensile strength. The material is supplied in the hardened and tempered condition, typically in the tensile range of 850-1000 Mpa (Condition T). It provides good ductility, shock resistance, and wear resistance, making it ideal for various engineering applications.
42CrMo4 Grade Application:
42CrMo4 alloy steel is widely used in engineering applications for parts such as machinery, automotive components, mining equipment, gearwheels, supercharger drive gears, connecting rods, pins, and high-pressure components. It is also used in power train applications, cold-formed fastener components, shafts, gears, and drill collars for oil exploration.

42CrMo4 Hardness:
- Hardness: 295-355 HB
42CrMo4 Heat Treatment:
42CrMo4 is known for its good strength and toughness after quenching and tempering. It can be hardened by oil quenching up to a bar diameter of 60 mm. Larger diameters may not achieve a fully martensitic structure.
42CrMo4 Hardening:
- First Quenching: Heat slowly to 880°C, soak, and quench in oil or water.
- Second Quenching: Heat to 780-820°C, followed by quenching in oil or water.
42CrMo4 Tempering:
- Tempering Temperature: 205-649°C, followed by cooling in water or oil. The standard hardness after tempering is around 18-22 HRC.

42CrMo4 Forging Properties:
- Forging Temperature: 926-1205°C
42CrMo4 Stress Relieving:
- Stress Relieving Temperature: 450-650°C
42CrMo4 Normalizing:
- Normalizing Temperature: 840-880°C
42CrMo4 Annealing:
- Heat slowly to 800-850°C.
- Cool slowly in the furnace to 480°C.
- Complete annealing in the air.
42CrMo4 Density:
- Density: 7.85 g/cm³
- Tensile Strength: 655 MPa
42CrMo4 Machinability:
42CrMo4 alloy steel has good machinability in its annealed condition and is suitable for cutting, drilling, and forming processes.
42CrMo4 Welding:
42CrMo4 steel has limited weldability, and preheating to 200-300°C is recommended to avoid deterioration of the chromium layer. Alloy steel 42CrMo4 can be friction welded, but precautions must be taken to prevent undesirable microstructures from forming in the weld zone.
